WELCOME TO THE NPSG

The Natural Products Support Group is a contractor-operated laboratory under  SAIC Frederick, whose mission is to process all of the specimens that are acquired by the Developmental Therapeutics Program, National Cancer Institute, so that it can be determined if the specimen contains a substance that shows promise for treatment of cancer or a viral disease.  There are three general categories of materials that require extraction; plants, marine organisms and fungal ferments.  In each case two extracts are made, but different techniques are required.

The laboratory is loosely organized into five groups: 1) Plant grinding & Extracting, 2) Marine Specimen & Fungal Grinding and Extracting, 3) Weighing & Shipping, 4) Methods Development & Isolations, and 5) Computer Support.
